Have you ever heard of the little town called Lamy?  You could  say that it is a little whistle stop for the Amtrack Railroad System, but, now that I have spent some time there, it is so much more.  Lush trees, beautiful foothills, and gorgeous views of the Galisteo Basin with skies that go on forever!  And those sunsets….absolutely stunning!  You literally step back in time with the little old school house….and an old hotel,bar and restaurant that is now a museum.  Lunch is so much fun!  They have an old silver dining  train car set up there near the station that is a little restaurant….and you feel as if you are back in the 1950′s traveling on a train!   The menu is great…and delicious.  When I was a child, I road on a train on a regular basis and this was so nostalgic for me!  Just stepping into that dining car….I was back!  Back to climbing on board carrying my little round yellow suitcase and ready to go visit my Nannie!

On Ravens Ridge Road, there is a house at the top of the hill….on the highest point in Lamy!  You drive up this winding gravel road, past the endearing old Lamy graveyard (dates back to 1700′s) and enter the property.  The home is built into the side of the mountain….so has a few steps—-the nosing on the steps is actual rail road rails…..dating back to 1927!  Wonderful outdoor spaces….and the views are spectacular…..and will never be compromised by future homes.  The heart of the home is the kitchen….the kind of kitchen that no one ever leaves!

We had a “shoot out” party there recently…..yes….real guns….they have a skeet shooter…and target area set up!  It was a blast!  Everyone go to take a shot or two….and yes….I tried…but missed every time!  Those little yellow things just fly too fast out of that machine!  We also had a cowboy serenade party…..where we set up a stage with amps and drums and the whole band …and cowboys sang their hearts out!  This house is just too much fun!  All the while, we were watching the train go by in the distance and the sunset that evening was again- a stunner!
